One concept for what
downtown could become.

This illustration has been circulating in the community. We are sharing it so residents have something concrete to react to in the survey.

Concept illustration of Downtown Northbrook showing The Meadows, Market Hall, Retail Collective, Community Hub, and The Station
This is one concept, not a finalized plan. This initiative does not advocate for any specific development outcome. The survey will ask residents whether these ideas appeal to them, what is missing, and what should be changed or reconsidered entirely.

Six areas in the proposal.

Zone 01

The Meadows

A central green space and gathering area at the heart of the development. Intended as a public park and community lawn.

Zone 02

The Market Hall

An open-air food and vendor market. Local food stalls, outdoor seating, and seasonal programming.

Zone 03

Retail Collective

Curated local boutiques and artisan shops. Small-format retail designed for independent businesses.

Zone 04

The Station

Residential lofts and a ground-floor cafe near the Metra station. Transit-connected mixed-use development.

Zone 05

Community Hub

Event space, coworking, and community workspace. A flexible venue for local organizations and gatherings.

Zone 06

Village Green Metra Station

A redesigned public plaza around the Metra stop connecting the development to public transit.

The survey will ask what you think of these ideas.

You are not being asked to approve or reject a plan. The survey will ask which of these concepts appeal to you, which do not, what you feel is missing, and what you would change.

All responses are anonymous. There are no right or wrong answers. We are looking for genuine community priorities, not consensus.
